Advantages and Disadvantages of the Intel N100 Processor

November 20, 2024

The Alder Lake-N series is a processor series launched by Intel in early 2023. It adopts the Intel 7 process, integrates the same GPU as the Xe core display, and upgrades the AV1 encoder, with performance surpassing the traditional entry-level Pentium processor. Processor N100 has many advantages and disadvantages. Let’s analyze it with UIPOS:

Advantages:
Performance improvement: Compared with the previous generation Celeron and Pentium processors, single-threaded and multi-threaded performance is better, suitable for basic computing tasks, web browsing, and office applications

Low power consumption: 6W TDP (thermal design power consumption), which means less heat is generated when working, which is more energy-efficient than some processors such as J6412 and J4125, helping to extend the life of POS machines.

Modern architecture: Based on Alder Lake-N architecture, benefiting from Intel’s latest microarchitecture improvements, with higher efficiency and performance per watt.

Integrated graphics card: Intel UHD graphics card with 24 execution units, which can support POS machines to handle basic multimedia tasks, such as playing advertising videos, product pictures, promotional posters, etc., and can drive 3 displays.

Support for modern features: Support for PCIe 3.0, USB 3.2, HDMI 2.0b, and compatibility with DDR4 and LPDDR5 memory.

Compatibility: Suitable for a variety of operating systems, including Windows 11 and various Linux distributions, suitable for IoT and embedded systems

Disadvantages:
Although the N100 processor performs well in low-power applications, its performance is not enough to complete tasks such as video editing, 3D rendering, or running virtual machines.

Lacking features found in high-end processors, such as Turbo Boost or a large amount of L3 cache, it cannot handle large amounts of data and run multiple applications at the same time.

Although the N100 supports PCIe 3.0, it is relatively weak in interface expansion, peripheral device support, and storage capacity. If you need to connect multiple POS peripherals and TB-level storage space at the same time, the N100 may not be able to effectively support it.

Intel N100 processor has both advantages and disadvantages, which need to be considered comprehensively according to your needs and usage scenarios. UIPOS provides a variety of POS hardware solutions based on N100 processor for restaurants, retail and other industries. There is always a solution that can meet your needs.
