Memory (RAM) is an important component in POS terminals, directly impacting the operating speed and multitasking capabilities of the device. Currently, common memory types for POS terminals include DDR3 and DDR4. Although both are types of synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) with high-bandwidth interfaces, there are notable differences between them.
1. The data transmission frequency of DDR4 typically starts above 2133 MHz, while DDR3 frequencies range from 800 MHz to 2133 MHz.
2. The operating voltage of DDR4 memory is 1.2V, while the operating voltage of DDR3 is 1.5V, which is lower, so the power consumption is lower, which can save power and reduce the heat generated.
3. DDR4 modules use 288 pins, while DDR3 modules use 240 pins, making them incompatible with one another. To upgrade to DDR4, it’s necessary to ensure that the POS terminal’s motherboard supports DDR4.
4. DDR4 employs an improved manufacturing process, offering stronger resistance to interference and a lower failure rate compared to DDR3.
5. Different POS terminals use different motherboards, and DDR3 and DDR4 are also suitable for different motherboards. For example, the third to fifth generation i3, i5, and i7 motherboards support DDR3, while the sixth generation or higher i3, i5, and i7 motherboards support DDR4.
In general, DDR4 has more advantages than DDR3 in data transmission rate, energy consumption, and compatibility. In practical applications, DDR4 can better meet the needs of high-performance POS terminals and multi-tasking. UIPOS provides a variety of DDR4 POS terminal solutions, please consult for details!
