Many people are curious whether enabling a clean boot in a Windows POS system means disabling all functions. But in fact, clean boot by minimising startup items and services, ensuring that the Windows POS system only loads essential drivers and necessary services. It helps eliminate issues caused by third-party software, plugins, or background programs, allowing the Windows POS system to run efficiently.
So, what are the specific steps to enable a clean boot on a Windows POS system? UiPOS summarises the following methods:
1. If we want to quickly optimise the startup speed, an intuitive method is to press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, switch to the “Startup” tab, then right-click on unnecessary startup items and select “Disable”.
2. Accessing the Service Manager is also an effective method. Press “Win + R” and type services.msc to open the Service Manager. Browse the list of services and change the startup type of some non-essential services to “Manual” or “Disabled”, such as printer background services or remote registry services. However, avoid disabling services related to POS system functions or core Windows system features, as this could affect the device’s normal operation.
3. Another method is through msconfig. Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter. In the “System Configuration” window, switch to the “Startup” tab, click “Open Task Manager”, and disable all non-essential startup items. Next, go to the “Services” tab, tick “Hide all Microsoft services”, and then disable the remaining third-party services.
4. Safe Mode is a special startup method in Windows that only loads basic drivers and services. Navigate to Settings → Update & Security → Recovery → Advanced Startup, and click “Restart Now”.
After restarting, select Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings, then click Restart.
Once restarted, press F4 or F5 to enter Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking. The method is useful for troubleshooting conflicts related to startup items or drivers.
The above are several ways to enable clean boot, but in actual operation, UIPOS recommends making configuration changes step by step and restarting the Windows POS system after each adjustment to observe the operation so as to restore the settings in time. Additionally, to ensure the data security of the Windows POS system, it is advisable to back up important data before enabling a clean boot.
