How to Fix the “Access Denied” Error on the C Drive of a Windows 10 POS Machine?

May 24, 2025

If you encounter an “Access Denied” error when trying to access the C drive on your Windows 10 POS machine,it means that there may be insufficient account permissions or incorrect user profiles. Don’t worry—UiPOS has put together some effective solutions to help you resolve this issue quickly.

Accessing the C drive requires administrator rights. If you are not logged in as an administrator or do not have the necessary privileges, you may receive an “Access Denied” message. To resolve this, follow these steps:
1. Right-click the C drive icon and select the “Properties” option;
2. Click the “Security” tab;
3. Click the “Advanced” button;
4. In the dialog box that pops up, click the “Add” button;
5. Enter the user name you are using and click “OK”;
6. Click the “Edit” button;
7. Check the “Full Control” option and click “OK”;
8. Restart the Windows 10 POS machine.

After following these steps, you should be able to access the C drive with administrator privileges. However, before making any changes, ensure you back up any important data.

If you are already logged in as an administrator but still receive the “Access Denied” error, it could be due to insufficient user permissions. Try the following method:
1. Right-click the “Start” menu and select “Windows System”;
2. Find and right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator”;
3. Enter “net user administrator /active:yes” and press the keyboard “Enter” key to execute;
4. Restart the Windows 10 POS machine.
With the above methods, you should be able to obtain sufficient user permissions to access the C drive.

The should activate the built-in Administrator account, allowing you to regain full access to the C drive.

If the issue persists, you can try converting your current user profile into an administrator account:
1. Right-click the “Start” menu and select “Windows System”;
2. Find and right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator”;
3. Enter “net user administrator /active:yes” and press the keyboard “Enter” key to execute;
4. Restart the Windows 10 POS machine.
With the above methods, you should be able to obtain sufficient user permissions to access the C drive.

Before making any modifications to user permissions, always back up critical data. Changes to the C drive’s permissions may affect Windows 10 POS machine stability, and lost data may not be recoverable. If you are unsure about any step, consider seeking assistance from a professional technician.
