As one of the key peripherals of a Windows POS system, the cash drawer is primarily used to store coins and banknotes. By configuring the cash drawer correctly, it can open automatically during transactions, significantly improving cashier efficiency. Below is the detailed setup procedure provided by UiPOS:
1. Most cash drawers are not connected directly to the Windows POS system host, but are instead connected to the receipt printer via an RJ11 or RJ12 interface. Before connecting, ensure that your cash drawer and receipt printer are interface-compatible, and use the correct cable to connect them.
2. On the Windows POS system, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, and locate the installed receipt printer.
3. Right-click on the printer and select Printing Preferences or Properties, then look for an option such as Device Settings or Cash Drawer Control (the location may vary depending on the printer brand).
4. In the section, change the Peripheral Unit Type to Cash Drawer, and set both Unit 1 and Unit 2 to Document Bottom.
5. If you are using Register for PC, save the settings and perform a test by pressing CTRL + E on the keyboard during a test sale.
6. If you would prefer the cash drawer to open before the receipt is printed, set Unit 1 and Unit 2 to Top of Document instead.
UiPOS recommends conducting several tests after setup to ensure the cash drawer opens properly each time a test is performed or when the “Open Drawer” button is pressed. By following the steps above, you can successfully configure your cash drawer for use with a Windows POS system.
