According to a UIPOS survey, over two-thirds of U.S. consumers have used a food ordering app at least once to order takeout and nearly half of them said they use the app to place orders at least once a week. In 2024, the user penetration rate for the U.S. takeout market is projected to reach 44.6%, indicating that nearly half of Americans regularly rely on these services.
It can be seen that the demand for takeout services in the United States has surged, and the probability of switching from in-store dining to takeout orders is constantly increasing. To better understand Americans’ eating habits, UIPOS tracked the food spending of thousands of consumers over a month. Their average weekly spending fell into three categories: frugal (under $50), medium ($50 to $85), and loose (over $85).
UIPOS also conducted a random sampling survey. After interviewing these three groups, it was found that no matter which group, they use takeout more than 20% of the time, and they don’t care about the extra costs of ordering meals, and plan to continue using takeout services in the future.
UIPOS data also predicts that the North American restaurant delivery market will generate $106.6 billion in revenue in 2024. The third-party delivery platform market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 2.52%, reaching $120.7 billion by 2029. By that year, the number of users in the North American takeout market is expected to rise to 258.9 million.
